We are a citizen-led movement dedicated to advocating for pedestrian rights in Figueira da Foz.
Why This Group?
- Our city lacks safe access points, sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes.
- Sensitive areas, such as schools and health facilities, are frequented by vulnerable pedestrians like children and the elderly, yet remain unsafe.
- Despite the highway code prioritising pedestrians as the most vulnerable road users, city mobility infrastructure overwhelmingly favours motor vehicles.
- Even where pedestrian access exists, motor vehicles frequently violate the highway code by parking on sidewalks and crosswalks.
How Will We Achieve Our Goal?
- Advocacy: Urge Figueira da Foz town hall and parish councils to provide safe pedestrian and bicycle access.
- Prioritization: When coexistence between cars and pedestrians is unsafe, demand that municipal authorities prioritize pedestrian safety.
- Enforcement: Push for systematic and consistent enforcement of pedestrian rights by the city’s police, including penalties for violations such as parking on sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Focus on High-Risk Areas: Ensure our demands are met particularly in high-risk zones like schools and health facilities.
- Education: Educate the public, especially motorists, about pedestrian priority as mandated by the highway code.
- Awareness: Share information through photos, posts, and comments about situations that compromise pedestrian safety.
- Community Growth: Expand and promote our group to increase our influence with authorities and the general public.
