“The Holy Family”, a rectangular wooden box containing images of Joseph, Mary and Jesus, is a small portable oratory. On the left-hand side door are written the names of subscribers who wish to welcome it into their homes and follow the teachings of the family of Nazareth. The cult dates back to the 15th century and exists in a residual form in some of the country’s villages. This oratorio is the common scenic element of the three texts that make up Elmano Sancho’s “The Holy Family”: Joseph, the father; Mary, the mother; Jesus, the son.
“Mary, The Mother”, the second text in the trilogy about the family, is a text about loss, pain, loneliness, old age, forgetfulness and death.
