Synopsis: Unexpectedly, Thien receives the news of his sister-in-law’s death and is left in charge of looking after his five-year-old nephew Dao. He returns to the village where he was born to organise the funeral and go in search of his brother, Dao’s father, who left years ago. As he emerges from what seems to be a long state of dormancy, it becomes clear that Thien’s search is not only for his brother, but also for himself.
In this cocoon film we feel transported to another reality and embroiled in a transcendental discovery awakened by a catastrophe.
Winner of the Caméra d’or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, ‘Inside the Yellow Cocoon’ is a magnificent and surprising first film.
