Margarida Vila-Nova takes to the stage in the Portuguese version of Suzie Miller’s ‘À Primeira Vista’ (Prima Facie), directed by Tiago Guedes. Simultaneously a powerful monologue and a breathtaking legal thriller, ‘À Primeira Vista’ is one of the most recognisable plays of recent years. An incisive examination of power, consent and the law that has won several awards and nominations.
Teresa is a brilliant young lawyer. Coming from a humble working-class family, she rose through the ranks solely on her own merit and hard work, establishing herself as a gifted defence lawyer. She defends, cross-examines and wins case after case. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, the burden of proof and morality diverge, at a crossroads where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game.
